Jason McElwain Biography
Jason "Jmac" McElwain was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old and didn’t talk until he was 8. He was a Basketball manager for 3 years, until he got in my first JV game at Greece Athena High School and hit 3 free throws in a row. Then, his senior year on varsity he got in with 4 minutes left and scored 20 points, he hit 6 "3 pointers" and helped Athena win its first sectional title since 1992. Since his big game, he has been on various TV stations including ESPN, CNN, ABC, Larry King, CBS, etc. He has met Oprah, Donald Trump, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, Magic Johnson, Peyton Manning, Doug Flutie, Lance Armstrong, President George W. Bush and over 200 College Coaches.
Since his big game, he has coached high school athletics for over 20 seasons, all at his high school Greece Athena. He has coached 9 seasons for AAU basketball, 7 with East Coast Fusion, 2 years with Rap Elite, 1 year as an assistant coach with Rap Thunder. He has been apart of 9 sectional titles at Greece Athena for Basketball and Soccer with 11 division titles, 2 State Final appearances and 1 State Ring.
McElwain has been blessed to win many awards like best sports moment of year at the 2006 ESPYS, and also the courage award at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards. He has run over 12 marathons, 2 Ultra Marathons, 15 Half Marathons, 50 5Ks, 15 10Ks, 5 15Ks.
He is very devoted to his family, friends, and the kids he has coached. He volunteers with AutismUp and has also been apart of over 25 high school and college basketball camps around the United States. He has been a Snow Valley Basketball school coach for 8 years, and has also been a certified licensed coach with USA Basketball for over 5 years.
