Jason Hehir

Jason Hehir is an acclaimed director and producer renowned for his compelling sports documentaries. Throughout his career, Hehir has been celebrated for his meticulous research and ability to humanize iconic figures, offering audiences profound insights into the lives and events that have shaped sports and culture.

He began his career as a production intern for NBC Sports. His passion for storytelling led him to HBO, where he worked as an associate producer on "On the Record with Bob Costas."

Over the years, Hehir has directed and produced several notable documentaries, including: "The Fab Five," a 2011 documentary exploring the impact of the University of Michigan's early 1990s men's basketball team; "The '85 Bears," a 2016 film chronicling the storied season of the Chicago Bears' 1985 team; and 2018's "André the Giant" about the life of the legendary wrestler, which became one of HBO's most-watched sports documentaries.

Hehir's most acclaimed work to date is 2020's "The Last Dance," a 10-part documentary series co-produced by ESPN Films and Netflix. The series provides an in-depth look at Michael Jordan's career, with a focus on the Chicago Bulls' 1997–98 season. It received widespread critical acclaim and won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

In 2021, Hehir directed "Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space," a Netflix series documenting SpaceX's first all-civilian orbital mission. That same year, he founded the production company Little Room Films.

Continuing his exploration of significant events, Hehir directed "Murder in Boston: Roots, Rampage, and Reckoning" in 2023, a documentary series examining the murder of Carol Stuart for HBO.
