Janice Dean

Janice Dean is a weather presenter, television host, and New York Times bestselling author recognized for her career in broadcast meteorology. Dean has worked at radio and television stations in Canada and the United States, including CHEZ-FM and WCBS-TV, before joining Fox News. Prior to her role at the network, Dean served as news editor and entertainment reporter for Imus in the Morning, which aired on WFAN-AM New York and was simulcast nationally on MSNBC. At Fox News Channel, Dean served as senior meteorologist, where she became known to viewers as Janice Dean the Weather Machine, a nickname given by Fox News anchor Shepard Smith during Studio B.

Dean has covered major weather events across the United States, including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Sandy, Irene, Igor, Earl, and Katrina. She has contributed to Fox News Channel’s coverage of hurricanes and severe weather, providing meteorological analysis and updates. Dean is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds the AMS Seal of Approval.

In addition to her television work, Dean is the author of the children's series "Freddy the Frogcaster," which introduces young readers to weather concepts. She has donated proceeds from her "Freddy" titles to organizations supporting disaster relief. Dean’s memoirs include "Mostly Sunny: How I Learned to Keep Smiling Through the Rainiest Days," "Make Your Own Sunshine: Inspiring Stories of People Who Find Light in Dark Times," and "I Am the Storm: Inspiring Stories of People Who Fight Against Overwhelming Odds." Her books address resilience, optimism, and overcoming adversity.

Dean has publicly shared her experience living with multiple sclerosis, using her platform to raise awareness about the disease and advocate for others facing health challenges. In her memoirs, Dean discusses obstacles encountered in her career, including online harassment, health issues, and workplace discrimination.

After the deaths of her father-in-law and mother-in-law, both residents of assisted living facilities in New York, due to complications from COVID-19, Dean became a vocal critic of state nursing home policies and advocated for transparency and accountability in government. Her advocacy work, combined with her expertise in meteorology and public communication, has established Dean as a prominent voice in weather broadcasting, public health awareness, and government accountability.
