Jane Ferguson

Jane Ferguson is an award-winning international journalist, author, and media executive with over 15 years of frontline reporting experience across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. She has covered major global events including the wars in Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan, the fall of Kabul, the rise and fall of ISIS, famine in Somalia, uprisings in Sudan and Lebanon, and escalating tensions across the Red Sea and Gulf region.

She is best known for her in-depth, on-the-ground reporting, including during the Syrian civil war with exclusive access to rebel-held areas, her extensive coverage of the final years of the U.S. war in Afghanistan, and the military campaign against ISIS. Her work documenting the war in Yemen and its humanitarian fallout helped bring international attention to the crisis. Ferguson's writing for The New Yorker has focused on geopolitics, the humanitarian impact of war, and US foreign policy more broadly. Her reporting has earned multiple awards, including an Emmy Award, a George Polk Award, two Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards, and a Peabody Award.

Ferguson's award-winning and acclaimed 2023 memoir, No Ordinary Assignment, was a NYTimes Editor's Pick. The book documents her journey from early years growing up in Northern Ireland to building a career in international broadcasting and award-winning war reporting.

In addition to her reporting, she has taught journalism and entrepreneurship at Princeton University, where she mentors students on storytelling and media innovation.
