Jake DuPree (they/them) is a nonbinary burlesque performer, dancer, actor, and fitness personality whose career spans burlesque, musical theater, fitness, and media. DuPree earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia, before building a multifaceted career in the performing arts. DuPree has spoken about how performing became a vehicle for healing, stating that burlesque allowed them to come to terms with their own gender identity and sexuality. Their introduction to burlesque began when friends encouraged them to participate in an amateur drag competition at West Hollywood's Revolver, which led to an audition with Dita Von Teese and an appearance in the Giant Martini Glass act.
DuPree made their burlesque debut in Dita Von Teese's "Von Follies" show, performing the famous martini glass act. That opportunity led to several career milestones, including becoming the first nonbinary person to perform at Crazy Horse in Paris. DuPree has headlined shows at venues such as Folies Bergère, Théâtre des Variétés, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre in Paris, as well as Wintergarten Varieté in Berlin, The Windmill Soho in London, and Blackpool Tower Ballroom in England. DuPree has also been a featured act in "Fantasma Circus Erotica" at the Folies Bergère and Théâtre des Variétés in Paris.
Their career extends beyond the burlesque stage. DuPree made their Hollywood Bowl debut performing in "Kinky Boots," directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell and starring Wayne Brady and Jake Shears. They also completed a Las Vegas residency as an opening act for Kylie Minogue and Christina Aguilera's shows at the Voltaire Theatre in the Venetian. DuPree made their West End debut in "Burlesque the Musical" at the Savoy Theatre, originating the role of Trey/Chardonnay. On television, DuPree danced on "RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars 3" as Shangela's partner in the "Kitty Girl" challenge.
DuPree is the second nonbinary person featured in Playboy and has modeled lingerie for Elle Magazine, Honey Birdette, and Playful Promises. They served as Cosmopolitan magazine's first "unicorn correspondent," known as Glitter Fantasy, with all unicorn videos available on Amazon Prime Video as "Glitter Fantasy the Unicorn." The City of West Hollywood named DuPree "Queen of Carnaval" for the Halloween festivities. DuPree has been recognized by Time Out Magazine and Pasadena Magazine as one of the top barre instructors in Los Angeles and has been featured as a fitness host on PopSugar Fitness, The Doctors, and Clevver. DuPree's work in burlesque, fitness, and LGBTQ+ representation continues to influence the performing arts and entertainment industries.
