Jacqueline Winspear

Jacqueline Winspear is a New York Times bestselling author known for the Maisie Dobbs novels, a series of historical mystery books that explore the aftermath of World War I. After completing her studies at the University of London's Institute of Education, Winspear worked in general and academic publishing, higher education, and marketing communications in the United Kingdom. She later moved to the United States, where she worked in business and as a personal and professional coach. During this period, she began writing, contributing regularly to journals focused on international education and travel, and publishing articles in Washington Post, Huffington Post, The Daily Beast, and other publications.

The Maisie Dobbs series consists of 18 novels following private investigator and former World War I field nurse Maisie Dobbs, examining the effects of war on individuals and society. Winspear's interest in the era was influenced by her grandfather's experiences as a wounded and shell-shocked World War I veteran. The character of Maisie Dobbs was conceived during a moment of reflection, leading to a fully developed protagonist with a background rooted in early 20th-century London.

Charlotte Bright is a recent protagonist in Winspear's body of work, continuing the author's focus on characters shaped by war. The Maisie Dobbs series has been optioned for film and television adaptation by HiddenLight Productions.
