Jack H. Llewellyn

Dr. Jack H. Llewellyn is a sports psychology consultant, author, professor, and corporate coach with decades of experience in mental performance training. Llewellyn is the founder of the Center for Winning Performance, an organization focused on mental training for athletes and high performers to develop and maintain a winning attitude in both professional and personal pursuits. He played a key role in the development of sports psychology programs at Old Dominion University, Minnesota State University-Mankato, and Florida International University, and was an early leader in introducing sports psychology to Major League Baseball. Llewellyn is recognized as the first sports psychologist to work in professional baseball.

With more than 30 years as a sports psychology consultant, Llewellyn gained national attention for his work with Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz. At the request of Bobby Cox and the Atlanta Braves, Llewellyn worked with Smoltz during a challenging period, contributing to the pitcher's career turnaround and the team's extended success. Llewellyn served as the Atlanta Braves sports psychologist for 16 years, during which the team won a World Series and 14 division titles. His expertise extends beyond baseball, having worked with NBA, NFL, and NHL players, professional boxers, PGA and LPGA golfers, USTA tennis players, and Olympic athletes. He was appointed to the International Olympic Committee Polyclinic as an on-call sports psychology consultant for all teams and nationalities at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Llewellyn applies the same mental performance strategies used by elite athletes to help clients assess their abilities, focus on effective processes, manage stress, and recover from adversity to achieve high performance. His approach has been adopted by clients across a range of industries, including Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, AT&T, 3M, Hewlett-Packard, Georgia-Pacific, and Johnson & Johnson, as well as financial services, pharmaceutical, and energy companies, and organizations such as the FBI and ATF. Llewellyn delivers more than 40 speeches annually, collaborating with leading companies and organizations nationwide.

As an author, Llewellyn has written books including "Psychology of Coaching: Theory and Practical Application," "Let 'Em Play, For Parents and Coaches of Young Athletes," "Coming in First," and "Winning Sure Beats Losing." In "Coming in First," he details the program behind his success, previously available only through private counseling and seminars. Llewellyn has authored 12 books and published numerous research articles throughout his career. He serves as an adjunct professor at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and is a frequent contributor on sports psychology topics, appearing regularly on CNN and in major newspapers across the United States.
