Jaccob Slavin

Jaccob Slavin is a professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. Slavin was selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round, 120th overall, of the NHL Entry Draft. Rather than turning professional immediately, he committed to Colorado College to play for the NCAA Division I Tigers, where he was recognized as NCHC Rookie of the Year and named to both the NCHC All-Rookie Team and the NCHC All-Conference Second Team. Following his sophomore year, Slavin signed an entry-level contract with the Hurricanes, forgoing the remainder of his collegiate career.

Since making his NHL debut, Slavin has established himself as a leading defensive defenseman in professional hockey. An NHL All-Star and two-time recipient of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, Slavin is known for his disciplined style of play, once logging just two penalty minutes in 52 games. His career penalty minutes total is the fewest of any defenseman playing at least 350 games since his rookie season. Slavin is the Hurricanes' all-time leader in assists and points by a defenseman. He is recognized for his anticipation and quick stick, which allow him to effectively neutralize opposing chances.

Slavin has often been cited among the best defensemen to never have won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top player at the position, yet his impact on the Hurricanes' blue line remains significant. Selected 120th overall in the NHL Draft, he has appeared in more than 784 career regular-season games, scoring 56 goals with 251 assists, and has tallied nine goals and 35 assists in 104 career playoff games. His long-term commitment to the franchise was reflected in an eight-year, $51.69 million contract extension.

A highlight of Slavin's career includes being named to the Team USA roster for the Milan Olympics, where he contributed to a gold medal victory over Team Canada. The Carolina Hurricanes also captured the Stanley Cup, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6. Slavin became just the second American to win both an Olympic gold medal and the Stanley Cup in the same year, following Ken Morrow. Having spent his entire NHL career with Carolina, Slavin played a key role in the championship run, averaging significant minutes and contributing four assists in the playoffs.
