J.B. Smoove

J.B. Smoove is an Emmy Award-winning comedian, actor, and writer known for his work in stand-up comedy, television, and film. Smoove began his career on "Def Comedy Jam" and later became a writer and performer on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." He developed his comedic skills performing at the Uptown Comedy Club in Harlem and touring comedy clubs along the East Coast, establishing a foundation in the comedy industry.

Smoove joined "Saturday Night Live" as a staff writer and bit-part actor, and after his contract ended, he pursued new opportunities in entertainment. He became a regular cast member on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," portraying Leon Black. Smoove's performance as Larry David's houseguest and sidekick contributed to his reputation in television comedy and led to his promotion to the main cast.

During his tenure on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Smoove received a Screen Actors Guild nomination as part of the ensemble cast and an NAACP Image Award nomination. He co-authored the book "The Book of Leon: Philosophy of a Fool" with Iris Bahr, drawing on his character from the series. In film, Smoove played Julius Dell in Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man: Far From Home" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home." His additional film credits include "Date Night," "Hall Pass," "The Dictator," "Top Five," and "Barbershop: The Next Cut."

As a stand-up comedian, Smoove has hosted NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and Comedy Central's "Russell Simmons Presents: The Ruckus." He also released a one-hour stand-up special, "How I Dooz It." Smoove earned an Emmy Award for his role as Chief Billy Bills in the comedy-mystery series "Mapleworth Murders."

Beyond his on-screen work, Smoove founded The First Darrin, a creative agency that collaborates with brands on comedic campaigns and content. He serves on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon, New York, demonstrating a commitment to community engagement. Smoove's career spans stand-up, television, film, and creative direction, reflecting his influence in the comedy and entertainment industries.
