J. Michael Straczynski

1. Michael Straczynski is an American filmmaker, television writer, comic book writer, and novelist whose career spans television, film, comics, and prose fiction. Straczynski is best known as the creator of the science fiction television series "Babylon 5" and its spinoff "Crusade," as well as the series "Jeremiah" and "Sense8." Before these projects, Straczynski wrote for genre television properties including "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," "She-Ra: Princess of Power," and "The Real Ghostbusters," establishing a presence in science fiction and fantasy television.

"Babylon 5" is widely regarded as Straczynski's defining work and a significant contribution to television history. The series drew attention for its serialized storytelling and production approach, with Straczynski writing 92 of the 110 episodes, as well as the pilot and five television movies. "Babylon 5" received two Emmy Awards, back-to-back Hugo Awards, and numerous other honors. Straczynski has spoken at conventions and seminars in the United States and England, and at universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, which recognized "Babylon 5" as one of the three seminal American science fiction series, alongside the original "Twilight Zone" and "Star Trek." Straczynski's work extends beyond television into film and comics. He wrote the psychological drama film "Changeling," directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Angelina Jolie, which received multiple BAFTA Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay. As an author, Straczynski has published works reflecting his craft and personal experiences. His autobiography "Becoming Superman" was published by HarperVoyager, followed by the novel "Together We Will Go" from Scout Press and the instructional book "Becoming A Writer, Staying A Writer" from Benbella Books. Additional works include the dystopian science fiction novel "The Glass Box" and the original audio drama "Earthlight," which won the Audie Award for Original Work. Straczynski has received the Inkpot Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ray Bradbury Award, the Eisner Award, the Hugo Award, the Saturn Award, and others, underscoring his influence in science fiction, fantasy, and popular culture.
