Idina Menzel

Idina Menzel is a Tony Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter, and philanthropist whose career spans Broadway, film, television, and live concert performance. Menzel gained recognition as a stage actress with her Broadway debut as Maureen Johnson in the musical "Rent," earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She originated the role of Elphaba in the musical "Wicked" on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, and later reprised the role in the original West End production. Menzel returned to Broadway in the musical "If/Then," receiving another Tony Award nomination.

Menzel voiced Elsa in Disney's "Frozen," which became one of the highest-grossing animated films. The film's song "Let It Go," performed by Menzel, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The track reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, making Menzel the first artist with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting. She reprised the role of Elsa in "Frozen Fever," "Olaf's Frozen Adventure," "Ralph Breaks the Internet," and "Frozen 2." Menzel also made a cameo appearance in the film adaptation of "Wicked."

As a recording artist and songwriter, Menzel has released multiple studio albums, including "I Stand" and "Holiday Wishes," the latter peaking in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. She released "Drama Queen," a dance-themed pop album developed in collaboration with artists such as Jake Shears and Nile Rodgers. Menzel plays the main role of Jesse in "Redwood," a musical that premiered at La Jolla Playhouse and later opened on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre. "Redwood" was conceived by director Tina Landau and Menzel, with additional contributions by Menzel. The New York Times named the show a Critic's Pick.

President Joe Biden awarded Menzel the National Medal of Arts. She also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the live theatre category and was named a Disney Legend for her contributions to the Walt Disney Company. Menzel co-founded the A BroaderWay Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing girls from underserved communities with opportunities for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs.
