IDK

IDK, short for Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge, is a British-American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer known for his autobiographical lyricism that explores themes such as personal trauma, incarceration, racial inequality, and the inner workings of the music industry. IDK has developed a reputation for his intellectually ambitious and genre-blending approach to hip-hop, incorporating elements of soul, jazz, and trap, which distinguishes him within the DMV (Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia) music scene and beyond.

IDK's entry into music was shaped by personal adversity. At 17, he was tried as an adult for a felony and became the first member of his family to go to prison, where he spent a year writing rhymes. Influenced by artists including A Tribe Called Quest, 50 Cent, and Eminem, his lyrics resonated with fellow inmates. After his release, he used those experiences to inform his music and public commentary, including an essay for HuffPost titled "The System," in which he chronicled his time in prison and addressed inequities in the criminal justice system.

IDK began his career as a self-taught producer, creating beats in his bedroom and independently releasing early mixtapes such as "Sex, Drugs & Homework," "SubTRAP," and "Empty Bank." He challenged music industry conventions by premiering "Empty Bank" on Forbes, which led to additional features in the publication. He also partnered with Adult Swim for the release of "IWasVeryBad," further establishing his willingness to innovate within both music and media.

IDK's major-label debut, "Is He Real," released via Warner Records, featured collaborations with Pusha T, DMX, JID, Tyler, the Creator, and Burna Boy. His second studio album, "USee4Yourself," included features from Young Thug, Offset, MF Doom, Jay Electronica, The Neptunes, and Slick Rick. His third studio album, "Simple.," was executively produced by Kaytranada and featured Denzel Curry and Mike Dimes. The fourth studio album, "F65," included appearances by Snoop Dogg, Musiq Soulchild, NLE Choppa, and Benny the Butcher. In addition to his albums, IDK served as music supervisor and composer for NBA player Kevin Durant's Showtime documentary Basketball County: In the Water.

IDK's influence extends beyond recording. His network TV debut in the United States featured a performance of "No Cable" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he addressed social and political issues. Through "Radio Clue with IDK" on Apple Music 1, he has established himself as a cultural commentator and tastemaker. After parting ways with Warner Records, IDK self-released "BRAVADO + INTiMO," blending experimental trap with personal lyricism on topics such as identity and resilience, and featuring artists like Ab-Soul and Joey Bada$$. Throughout his career, IDK has consistently pushed the boundaries of hip-hop, maintaining a focus on authenticity, innovation, and social commentary.
