Huey Lewis and the News is a pop rock band based in San Francisco, California, recognized for its blend of rock, R&B, soul, and doo-wop. The band's origins trace back to Clover, a country-rock group from San Francisco featuring Huey Lewis on vocals and harmonica and Sean Hopper on keyboards. After returning to the United States, Lewis formed Huey Lewis and the News, which developed a following through live performances and a residency at Uncle Charlie's club in Corte Madera, California. Drawing influence from British pub rock and 1960s R&B and rock and roll, the band established a reputation for energetic, accessible music.

Huey Lewis and the News achieved 19 top 10 singles across the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, and Mainstream Rock charts. The album "Sports" propelled the band to international recognition, with four singles—"Heart and Soul," "I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll," and "If This Is It"—reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The band has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is ranked among the top 200 selling groups of all time by the Recording Industry Association of America. The song "The Power of Love," featured in the film "Back to the Future," became a number-one hit and received an Academy Award nomination. Lewis also appeared in the film as a faculty member during the "Battle of the Bands" scene.

Following this success, the band released the album "Fore!" which reached number one on the Billboard 200 and produced the number-one singles "Stuck with You" and "Jacob's Ladder," along with the mainstream rock hit "Hip to Be Square." "The Heart of Rock 'n' Roll" won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Long Form, and the band received the Brit Award for Best International Group. The lineup of Huey Lewis and the News remained consistent for more than 15 years, with only minor changes and the addition of a horn section, reflecting the group's stability.

Lewis was later diagnosed with Ménière's disease, an inner-ear disorder that affected his ability to hear music frequencies and maintain vocal pitch, leading to the cancellation of a tour. He sought treatment from several medical institutions. Despite these challenges, the band continued to record. The album "Weather" was completed with songs recorded before Lewis' hearing loss and was produced at the band's Trout Farm studio in Marin County, California. The album features a mix of rock, soul, and R&B, underscoring the band's enduring presence in American rock music.
