In 2013, his first attempt to cross the Pacific Ocean ended in failure and a life-threatening collision with a whale.
In 2019, he returned—and became the world’s first totally blind sailor to complete a nonstop Pacific Ocean crossing, navigating 12,000 kilometers over 55 days.
