Hilary Seligman

Hilary Seligman is a national expert in food insecurity and its impact on health, serving as a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, with appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology & Biostatistics. Seligman directs the Food Policy, Health, and Hunger Research Program at the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations and leads the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Nutrition and Obesity Policy, Research and Evaluation Network, focusing research on federal nutrition programs, charitable food networks, hunger policy, and the socioeconomic drivers of food choice. Seligman advises organizations such as Feeding America, where she serves as lead scientist and senior medical advisor, guiding research agendas and policy initiatives to address hunger nationwide.

Seligman founded EatSF, now known as Vouchers 4 Veggies, one of the nation’s largest produce prescription programs, which provides low-income individuals with access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Her research and advocacy have been published in leading medical and policy journals, and she regularly provides expert commentary and technical guidance to government agencies, nonprofits, and public health organizations. Seligman also co-directs the UCSF IMPACT Program, which accelerates the adoption of evidence-informed policies across health care and public sectors, and directs the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCSF, training clinician-leaders in health equity and policy-relevant research.

Seligman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and has served on boards including the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and California Food Policy Advocates. She is a frequent keynote speaker and panelist at national conferences, translating research into strategies for improving nutrition security and health outcomes. Through her programs, policy leadership, and commitment to health equity, Seligman contributes to the national conversation on the intersection of hunger, health, and social policy.
