Hervé Tullet

Hervé Tullet is a French multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and author recognized for his contributions to children's publishing and interactive children's books. After studying decorative arts, plastic arts, visual communication, and illustration, Tullet worked for more than a decade as an art director for communications companies and advertising agencies. The birth of his son prompted him to pursue his creative interests full time, launching a career that has influenced the landscape of children's literature.

Tullet is the author of more than 80 children's books, known for their innovative approach to narrative and interactivity. Each book is conceived as a unique experience, with every line, point, and color designed to engage young readers and encourage creative thinking. His catalog includes titles such as "Press Here," "Mix It Up!," "Let's Play!," "Say Zoop!," and "I Have an Idea!" These works have been translated into multiple languages and have reached a global audience. "Press Here" has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and remained on The New York Times Best Seller list in the Children's Picture Books category for several years.

Tullet received the Non-Fiction Prize at the Bologna International Book Fair for "Faut pas confondre." His books are known for encouraging readers to follow a path rather than a traditional narrative, fostering independent and imaginative thinking. In France, he is often referred to as "The Prince of pre-school books" for his approach to early childhood education and literacy. His work has inspired exhibitions and a musical adaptation.

Beyond publishing, Tullet conducts workshops that have brought together hundreds of participants in countries including Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Italy. He has led sessions at institutions such as the Library of Congress, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Tullet's first retrospective was held at the Seoul Arts Center in Korea. He also launched The Ideal Exhibition with Hervé Tullet, a collaborative project featuring video workshops and a collective virtual exhibition.

In addition to his work for children, Tullet authored "Hervé Tullet's Art of Play: Images and Inspirations from a Life of Radical Creativity," a volume that explores his artistic philosophy, methods, and inspirations. The book includes illustrations, sketches, fine art, and photographs of his installations, with commentary from curator Aaron Ott and children's literature expert Leonard S. Marcus. Tullet's name is closely associated with interactive children's books, and his work continues to shape the field of children's literature and creative education.
