Harold Carmichael Biography
Harold Carmichael is a former NFL wide receiver best known for his 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he became one of the most dominant pass-catchers of his era. Standing at 6’8”, Carmichael revolutionized the receiver position with his rare combination of size, athleticism, and skill.
Drafted in 1971, he quickly established himself as a playmaker, earning four Pro Bowl selections and recognition as a First-Team All-Pro. He retired as the Eagles’ all-time leader in receptions (589), receiving yards (8,978), and touchdowns (79) — records that stood for decades. His consistency was unmatched, catching at least one pass in 127 consecutive games from 1972 to 1980.
Beyond the field, Carmichael has been celebrated for his leadership and service. He worked in player development for the Eagles, mentoring younger athletes, and has been active in community and charitable efforts. In 2020, he received football’s highest honor when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Today, Harold Carmichael is remembered not only as one of the greatest receivers in NFL history, but also as a pioneer who changed the way the position was played.
