Hannibal Buress

Hannibal Buress is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, and musician known for his distinctive voice in contemporary comedy. Buress began performing comedy while attending Southern Illinois University and developed his craft on the Chicago circuit before relocating to New York City, where his career gained momentum. His deadpan humor earned him recognition, including the title of Best Male Comedian by the Excellence in Comedy New York awards. He was also included in Variety magazine's "Ten Comics to Watch" list and was highlighted by Rolling Stone on their "The 10 Funniest People, Videos and Things of the Coming Year" countdown.

Buress established a foundation as a television writer before moving into the spotlight as a performer. He was a writer on "Saturday Night Live," earning a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmys. He also wrote for the fifth season of the NBC comedy series "30 Rock." Buress's stand-up career flourished with a series of specials, including "Animal Furnace," "Live From Chicago," "Hannibal Takes Edinburgh," "Comedy Camisado," and "Miami Nights."

Buress starred on Adult Swim's "The Eric Andre Show" and was featured on Comedy Central's "Broad City." His supporting role as dentist Lincoln Rice on "Broad City" introduced him to a wider audience. In film, Buress appeared in "Neighbors," "Neighbors 2," "Baywatch," "Daddy's Home," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "Spider-Man: Far From Home," and "Tag," demonstrating range across comedy and blockbuster franchises.

Buress is also known for a stand-up routine that brought sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby to public attention, which acted as a catalyst for renewed public interest and broader conversations about accountability and sexual violence in the entertainment industry. Comedian Eddie Murphy later referenced Buress's role in these events during his Mark Twain Prize for American Humor acceptance speech.

Buress has expanded his creative work beyond stand-up, launching the podcast "Handsome Rambler" and venturing into music under the name Eshu Tune. He also announced plans to open a new performance venue, Isola Brooklyn, taking over the former Knitting Factory location. Buress continues to blend social commentary with humor across stand-up, television, film, podcasting, and music, maintaining a presence in the entertainment industry.
