Hadiqa Bashir is a Pakistani human rights activist and founder of Girls United for Human Rights, an organization dedicated to ending child marriage and advancing girls’ rights in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and beyond. Raised in the patriarchal society of Swat Valley, Bashir successfully resisted an attempted forced marriage at age 11 after witnessing the devastating consequences of early marriage on her peers. That pivotal experience ignited her lifelong commitment to empowering girls and challenging deeply rooted gender norms.
Bashir has since become a leading voice in the movement for girls’ rights in Pakistan’s tribal regions. She is a Women Deliver Young Leader and has received numerous international honors, including the Muhammad Ali International Humanitarian Award (2015), the Asian Girls Rights Award (2016), and a two-time nominee for the Children’s Peace Prize. Through grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy, she continues to amplify the voices of girls in marginalized communities and push for systemic change at both local and national levels.
