Gustavo Dudamel

Gustavo Dudamel's journey in music has seen him lead globally-renowned orchestras such as the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, where he currently serves as Music Director. His accolades include winning the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in Germany in 2004 and conducting the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time at the Lucerne Festival in 2007. Dudamel has also been recognized by the film industry, having conducted the opening and end titles for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in 2015. His achievements extend to becoming the youngest conductor to lead the Vienna Philharmonic in the New Year's Day Concert in 2017 and making his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, conducting Verdi's "Otello" in December 2018.

Throughout his career, Dudamel has held various prestigious positions including being the 2018–2019 artist-in-residence at Princeton University and music director of the Opéra National de Paris. His directorship of the Los Angeles Philharmonic is set to conclude at the end of the 2025–2026 season, after which he will assume the role of Music and Artistic Director of the New York Philharmonic. Besides his conducting prowess, Dudamel has also appeared in the documentary films "Tocar y Luchar" and "Let the Children Play," and made guest appearances in "Sesame Street" and "The Simpsons."

Recognized for his contributions to music, Dudamel has received numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance in 2012, the Leonard Bernstein Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, and the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize in 2018. Time magazine listed him as one of the most influential 100 people in 2010, and he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 22 January 2019. He has also conducted the orchestra for Steven Spielberg's 2021 film adaptation of "West Side Story" and won Grammy Awards for Best Classical Compendium in 2025 and 2026 for his tracks "Ortiz: Revolución Diamantina" and "Ortiz: Yanga," respectively.
