Gloria Riviera

Gloria Riviera is an Emmy Award-winning journalist whose career spans more than two decades of frontline reporting on major global news stories. After earning a bachelor's degree in English literature, Riviera completed a master's in journalism from New York University. She began her career with ABC News as an assistant to anchor Sam Donaldson before becoming an associate producer. Riviera was later named a correspondent for ABC NewsOne, traveling extensively to cover breaking news, including Hurricane Katrina, the disappearance of Natalie Holloway, and the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.

As an ABC News correspondent for more than 20 years, Riviera covered breaking, investigative, and feature stories for the network's flagship broadcasts, including "Good Morning America," "World News Tonight," "Nightline," ABC News Radio, and the "Start Here" podcast. She reported from more than a dozen countries across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, covering war zones, natural disasters, and international crises. Riviera was the first ABC News television correspondent to report on the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH-370 from Beijing and later covered search and rescue efforts in Kuala Lumpur. She also served as lead correspondent from Jindo Island in South Korea during the Sewol ferry disaster, reporting on the search and rescue operations and the experiences of families affected.

Riviera's journalism has earned industry recognition, including an Emmy Award for breaking news coverage of 9/11 and the Alfred I. duPont Award for her work on the special "9/11: Answering Children's Questions." She has also worked as an executive producer, contributing to award-winning September 11th coverage. Her investigative series "Daughters for Sale," which focused on underage sex trafficking, received multiple awards, and she earned an Emmy nomination for Best Investigative Story. Throughout her career, Riviera has appeared regularly as a political commentator for BBC.

Riviera has expanded her platform beyond broadcast journalism to address America's childcare crisis. She is the host of "No One Is Coming to Save Us," a weekly podcast from Lemonada Media and Neighborhood Villages focused on the childcare system in the United States. The podcast, which began as a limited series and reached the top 10 on the Apple Podcast charts, examines challenges in the American child care system and explores community-driven solutions. Now in its fifth season, the show serves as a platform for advocacy, storytelling, and policy discussion. Riviera also works as a correspondent for CNN. Her reporting expertise and ability to translate complex global and domestic issues into accessible narratives have established her as a trusted voice in journalism, podcasting, and public policy discourse.
