Gary S. Chan

Gary S. Chan works at the intersection of cybersecurity and performance. Chan is known for applying game theory and mathematics to predict and influence human behavior, a skill set that informs his work as a security mentalist. He serves as system vice president and chief information security officer at SSM Health, has designed anti-fraud systems for state agencies, led information security teams at World Wide Technology, and evaluated and mentored cybersecurity start-ups for a venture capital fund. Chan holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT and maintains certifications including CISSP, ISSMP, CFE, and Certified Technology Architect.

Chan’s approach to cybersecurity education blends technical expertise with elements of mentalism, helping audiences understand how criminals exploit predictable human behavior. He is trained in behavioral profiling, conflict management, negotiation, interrogation, and mediation. With more than 25 years of experience engaging audiences, Chan’s career includes award-winning performances and appearances at Chicago Magic Lounge. His keynote, "Extreme Social Engineering," encourages organizations to reconsider the human vulnerabilities central to cybersecurity threats.
