Frederik Andersen

Frederik Andersen is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender known for his achievements in the NHL. Andersen is the first Danish-born goaltender to play in the NHL, marking a significant milestone for Danish ice hockey. Before joining the NHL, Andersen played in the Superisligaen and Elitserien, the top leagues in Denmark and Sweden, respectively. During his time with Frölunda HC in Sweden, Andersen set a new Elitserien regular season club record with eight shutouts, surpassing Henrik Lundqvist's previous mark. He also led the league in goals-against average and save percentage, earning a nomination for the Elitserien Rookie of the Year Award.

Andersen made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks, coming in as a replacement goaltender and earning his first NHL win in a 6-3 victory over the Dallas Stars. He quickly established himself as an efficient netminder, tying an NHL record as the fastest goaltender to reach 50 career wins, achieving the milestone in just 68 games. In the Stanley Cup playoffs, Andersen helped lead the Ducks to the Western Conference finals. He was later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he became the team's top goalie, reaching 200 wins in 344 games and earning a spot in the NHL All-Star Game.

After joining the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent, Andersen became the first goaltender in franchise history to start a season 8-0-0 with a new team. He was named to the NHL All-Star Game and, alongside teammate Antti Raanta, won the William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to the goalies on the team that allows the fewest goals during the regular season. Despite facing injuries, Andersen was recognized as a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and surpassed Braden Holtby for the most wins by a goaltender in their first 500 career games.

With the Hurricanes, Andersen played his 500th NHL game, becoming the 84th goaltender and the first Danish goaltender in league history to reach this benchmark. He earned his 300th career victory shortly after, becoming the second-fastest goaltender to reach 300 wins behind Andrei Vasilevskiy. In the playoffs, Andersen posted a 1.41 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage, the best save percentage among NHL goaltenders in the postseason with a minimum of five games played. He went 5-0 in overtime games, stopping all 33 overtime shots faced in the first three rounds.

Internationally, Andersen has represented Denmark at the World Championship and played a key role in Denmark's Olympic qualification, winning all three games and helping secure the country's berth in the Winter Olympics. His performance, including a 1.31 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage, highlighted his leadership and impact on Denmark's standing in international hockey.
