Fred Rosen is an American attorney and business executive recognized for his role in shaping the modern live entertainment ticketing industry. Rosen served as president and chief executive officer of Ticketmaster, where he guided the company from a struggling operation into a global leader in ticket sales and event management. After graduating from Brooklyn Law School, Rosen operated his own firm specializing in corporate, debt resolution, and securities law. His legal expertise led him to a client connected to a Chicago tax attorney who had invested in a computerized ticketing company, which would become Ticketmaster.
When the company faced closure, Rosen became CEO and leveraged his legal and business skills to transform Ticketmaster. He implemented strategic decisions, innovative marketing, and technological advancements that expanded the company’s reach. Under Rosen’s leadership, Ticketmaster grew from annual sales of less than $100 million to more than $2.3 billion, establishing exclusive, multi-year contracts with venues and expanding operations to more than 210 cities across the United States, South America, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia. The company represented over 3,750 facilities and 85 professional sports franchises.
Rosen’s leadership in the entertainment industry has been acknowledged through several honors, including the City of Hope National Medical Center's "Spirit of Life" Award from the Music and Entertainment Industry Chapter, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and recognition as University of Southern California's Entrepreneur of the Year. He was appointed chairman of a task force to bring an NFL team to Los Angeles by the city’s mayor. Rosen has also contributed to charitable organizations, serving as a fundraiser for City of Hope and holding board positions at California Institute of the Arts, AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Rock The Vote, and Very Special Arts.
Following his tenure at Ticketmaster, Rosen continued to influence the live entertainment and ticketing sectors as chairman and chief executive officer of Stone Canyon Entertainment and as co-president and co-CEO of a subsidiary of Outbox Technology Inc., focusing on direct-to-consumer ticketing models. He remains active in public discussions on live event economics, including market power, dynamic pricing, and major sporting events. Rosen supports entrepreneurship and legal education through the Seymour and Hannah Rosen Endowed Scholarship at Brooklyn Law School, which assists first-generation law students interested in entrepreneurship. As a speaker, Rosen addresses topics such as negotiation, entrepreneurship, entertainment law, and market economics, drawing on decades of experience in the live entertainment industry.
