Francesco Carrozzini

Francesco Carrozzini is an Italian-born director and photographer whose work encompasses feature films, documentaries, music videos, and fashion photography. Carrozzini began creating photographs and short films in his early teens and studied film at the University of California in Los Angeles before returning to Italy to study philosophy at the University of Milan. He later moved to New York City, where he assisted photographers including Peter Lindbergh and Bruce Weber, an experience that influenced his visual approach. Carrozzini directed his first commercial assignment, a 30-second video promoting Italian MTV, at age 19.

Carrozzini collaborated with The New York Times on "The New York Times Screen Tests," a series of video interviews with entertainment figures such as Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, and Marion Cotillard. The series, which he conceptualized and directed, received a nomination at the Daytime Emmy Awards. He also directed the short film "1937," a psychological thriller shot at the Chelsea Hotel, which screened in competition at the Venice Film Festival. As a photographer, his work has appeared in Vanity Fair, L'Uomo Vogue, The New Yorker, W, Rolling Stone, and Vogue Italia, and he has photographed subjects including Robert De Niro, Kanye West, Naomi Campbell, Angelina Jolie, Keith Richards, Beyoncé, and Jeff Koons.

Carrozzini has directed music videos for artists such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Lenny Kravitz. His feature directorial debut, the documentary "Franca: Chaos and Creation," explores the life and influence of his mother and their relationship. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was recognized with a Nastro d'Argento by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists. "Franca: Chaos and Creation" examines the impact of Franca Sozzani on fashion editorials and the dynamic between Sozzani and Carrozzini.

Carrozzini expanded into narrative filmmaking with "The Hanging Sun," an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's novel "Midnight Sun," which was selected as the closing film of the Venice International Film Festival and features Charles Dance and Peter Mullan. He directed the Netflix original series "Supersex," inspired by the life of Rocco Siffredi, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2026, he directed "Be Brave," an innovative AI-driven documentary about Renzo Rosso, founder of the Diesel fashion brand, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Carrozzini's work bridges high fashion, documentary, and narrative cinema, establishing his presence in the film and photography industries.
