Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun is a striker for Ligue 1 club Monaco and the United States men's national soccer team. Balogun is recognized for his pace, finishing ability, movement, and goal-scoring instincts, contributing to his role as a central figure in American soccer. Born in New York after his parents, who were living in London, were unable to return due to airline safety concerns, Balogun's international eligibility has been a topic of interest in the soccer community.

Balogun joined Arsenal at age eight after being scouted while playing for Aldersbrook. He progressed through the Arsenal academy, signed his first professional contract, and made his senior debut as a substitute in a 3-0 home win against Dundalk in the UEFA Europa League. He scored his first senior goal in the same competition during a 3-0 away win against Molde. Balogun completed an 18-appearance loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship, scoring three goals. A subsequent loan to Stade de Reims in France marked a turning point, as he scored 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances, establishing himself among the top strikers in French football. His performance at Reims led to a €40 million transfer to Monaco.

Balogun chose to represent the United States men's national team after previously appearing for England at the youth level. He debuted in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal win over Mexico and scored his first senior international goal in the final against Canada, earning a place in the Nations League Finals Best XI. He also scored goals against Bolivia and Panama during the Copa America group stage, showcasing his clinical finishing in major international tournaments. Following the U.S. exit from the tournament, Balogun encouraged American soccer fans to continue supporting the team's development.

After a period sidelined by injury, Balogun returned to the national team, scoring against Japan, Ecuador, and Paraguay in consecutive starts. He was named Monaco's Player of the Month in February. At the FIFA World Cup, Balogun scored two goals in the USMNT's group stage opener, becoming the first American to score twice in a World Cup match since 1930. His performance in front of a sold-out stadium reinforced his position as a leading figure in American soccer. Balogun remains the USMNT's primary option at striker and continues to play a significant role for Monaco in Ligue 1.
