Florence Knapp is a British writer whose career bridges the fields of textile craftsmanship and literary fiction. Before publishing her debut novel, Knapp gained recognition as a heritage craftsperson. She began a sewing blog focused on English paper piecing, a specialized form of hand-sewing that cultivated a dedicated community of makers. Knapp authored a nonfiction book on this traditional quilt-making technique and contributed to the Victoria and Albert Museum publication, "Patchwork & Quilting." Her book, "Flossie Teacakes' Guide to English Paper Piecing," examines the psychology and history of handcraft, offering comprehensive guidance on needlecraft techniques.

Alongside her work in textile arts, Knapp developed a longstanding interest in fiction writing, beginning her first manuscript in 1999. This pursuit continued for more than 25 years, despite personal and professional obligations. Knapp wrote the first draft of her novel, "The Names," over a six-month period. Spanning 35 years, the novel attracted significant early interest in the publishing industry, including a thirteen-way auction in the UK, and quickly gained attention in literary circles.

Published by Phoenix Orion in the UK and Penguin in the US and Canada, "The Names" has been distributed globally and translated into more than 20 languages. The novel became a New York Times bestseller and was selected as a Read with Jenna pick. The Guardian described Knapp's plotting as skillful and her narrative as a compelling and original debut.
