Juan Fernando Ortega is a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter recognized for both his interpretations of traditional hymns, including "Give Me Jesus," "Be Thou My Vision" and "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty," and for original compositions such as "This Good Day," noted for their clarity and accessibility.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, near the Rio Grande, Ortega began studying piano at age eight. His early years included time in Ecuador and Barbados due to his father’s work with the U.S. Department of State. His family has lived in Chimayo, New Mexico, for eight generations, a heritage that has shaped his musical sensibility. Ortega graduated from Valley High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of New Mexico.
Drawing on his heritage and classical training, Ortega’s music blends country, classical, Celtic, Latin American, world, modern folk and rustic hymnody, creating a sound that is at once rooted in tradition and resonant with contemporary audiences.
