Eyoälha Baker

Eyoälha Baker is a Canadian artist, photographer, muralist, public speaker, writer, and community engagement leader recognized for the "Jump for Joy Photo Project." Her name, derived from the Kwakwa'ka'wakw language of Canada's West Coast, means "the wind." Baker holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from Concordia University, a Media Resources Diploma, and has studied international business management at Capilano University, combining artistic expertise with entrepreneurial skills.

Baker launched the "Jump for Joy Photo Project" after a period of personal reflection and global travel, seeking to create positive social impact through photography and community art. The project features individuals from diverse backgrounds leaping into the air, capturing expressions of joy and human connection. Baker has photographed hundreds of people in countries including Greece, Germany, Mexico, the United States, and Canada, building an international audience and fostering cross-cultural engagement.

The project evolved from a photography blog into a public art initiative, with Baker producing large-scale community murals. Notable works include a mural in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and a collaboration with Atira Women's Resource Society, incorporating individuals experiencing poverty, addiction, abuse, and mental illness. These installations highlight the role of public art in community engagement and social inclusion.

Baker has spoken at events such as TEDxEastVan, PeaceLove, and Interesting Vancouver, addressing the societal impact of cultivating joy through art and photography. She served as the inaugural artist in residence at Palm Springs Cultural Center in California. Baker's images and writing have been published internationally, and she has been nominated for the Western Canada Notable Awards. Her career as a muralist, speaker, and writer reflects a commitment to using visual art and storytelling to inspire community connection and well-being.
