Everclear

Everclear is an American alternative rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, by singer-songwriter and guitarist Art Alexakis. The band has sold more than 6 million records, released 11 studio albums—four of which have been certified Gold or Platinum—and achieved 12 Top 40 hit singles on Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio. Everclear is known for a blend of power chords, melodic hooks, and personal lyrics, with songs such as "Santa Monica," "Father of Mine," "I Will Buy You a New Life," "Wonderful," and "Everything to Everyone" becoming staples of modern rock radio.

The band's rise began with the independently released debut album "World of Noise," which featured a raw, lo-fi sound. Attention from the Portland music scene and college radio led to a contract with Capitol Records, which released the major-label debut "Sparkle and Fade." The album's hit "Santa Monica" brought Everclear mainstream recognition. The follow-up album, "So Much for the Afterglow," achieved double-platinum sales and earned the band a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Instrumental for "El Distorto de Melodica," as well as Billboard's Modern Rock Band of the Year Award. The fourth album, "Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile," continued the platinum streak and showcased a more pop-influenced direction.

During the band's peak years, Alexakis was joined by bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Greg Eklund. After the releases of "Songs from an American Movie Vol. Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude" and "Slow Motion Daydream," both Montoya and Eklund departed. Alexakis continued with new lineups, releasing additional studio albums including "Welcome to the Drama Club," "Invisible Stars," and "Black Is the New Black." He also created and ran the annual Summerland Tour, a traveling festival featuring 1990s alternative rock bands.

Alexakis's songwriting often addresses personal struggles, including addiction, family issues, and his diagnosis with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. He has used his platform to raise awareness and support charities such as the National MS Society and Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Alexakis also released a solo album, "Sun Songs," exploring acoustic and singer-songwriter styles outside the Everclear framework.

Everclear continues to perform live, maintaining a presence in the alternative rock and live music scenes. The band has completed tours celebrating the anniversary of "Sparkle and Fade," performing shows across the United States and Australia. Everclear's catalog and ongoing performances contribute to their enduring influence in alternative rock.
