Evelyn R. Carter

Dr. Evelyn R. Carter is a social psychologist, author, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) expert whose work integrates academic research with organizational change. Carter earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Northwestern University, a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a doctorate in psychology from Indiana University. Her research, focused on how individuals detect and discuss racial bias, has been funded by the National Science Foundation and published in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to evidence-based approaches in DEI and social psychology.

With more than 15 years of experience, Carter has applied her academic expertise to practical DEI strategy across multiple industries. She served as president of Paradigm, a DEI consulting firm, where she led innovation in DEI strategy and advised organizations including American Express, Burberry, Nike, the NFL, Uber, and UCLA. In this role, Carter developed frameworks for corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion and led teams dedicated to workforce education and development. Previously, as managing director of training and people development at Paradigm, she advised executives at companies such as DocuSign and Snap on building equitable organizations.

The book serves as a practical guide for individuals and organizations seeking to advance DEI initiatives. Carter received the Little, Brown Spark New Voices Award for her work on the book.
