Eugene Kandel

Eugene Kandel is an economist and authority on financial markets, serving as chairman of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Kandel has held the Emil Spyer Professorship of Economics and Finance at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has taught at the University of Rochester and the University of Chicago. His research, published in finance journals, has influenced the design and regulation of global stock exchanges, including a role in the Nasdaq trading rules reform and the decimalization of U.S. stock markets.

Kandel’s experience includes public service and policy leadership. As head of Israel’s National Economic Council and economic adviser to the prime minister, he contributed to shaping Israel’s economic strategy and policy. He later led Start-Up Nation Central, a nonprofit focused on leveraging Israeli innovation to address global challenges, and has chaired organizations focused on economic resilience and innovation policy, such as ISFI and RISE Israel.
