Erin Gray

Erin Gray is an American actress, model, author, and wellness advocate known for her work in television, film, and wellness education. Before beginning her acting career, Gray established herself as a leading model in New York City, becoming one of the highest-paid models in television and serving as the face of brands such as Virginia Slims and L'Oreal. Her image appeared in early Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues and in a L'Oreal cosmetics campaign, where she was the first to say, "I'm worth it." Between modeling assignments, Gray studied acting with coach Warren Robertson, preparing for opportunities in television and film.

Gray's first starring role came in the miniseries "Evening in Byzantium." She later signed a seven-year contract with Universal Studios, which led to her portrayal of Colonel Wilma Deering in "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." The character became a cultural touchstone and is recognized as one of the early examples of a strong female lead in science fiction television, influencing the representation of women in the genre and serving as a role model for female viewers. Gray continued to be celebrated in the science fiction community as one of the first authoritative female action heroines on American television.

Throughout the 1980s, Gray became a familiar presence on television, notably for her five-year role as Kate Summers-Stratton on the sitcom "Silver Spoons." After "Silver Spoons," Gray appeared in numerous television movies and guest-starred on series including "Silk Stalkings," "Murder She Wrote," "L.A. Law," "Jake and the Fatman," and "Evening Shade." Her television film credits include "Honor Thy Father and Mother: The True Story of the Menendez Murders," among more than 50 other productions.

Gray's film work includes "Dreams Awake," which earned her Best Actress honors at the Monaco Film Festival and the Houston Film Festival, and "The Music Teacher," for which she received Best Actress at the Golden State Film Festival. She has also appeared on genre series such as "The Thundermans," "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and in the "Star Trek Continues" web series. In addition to acting, Gray co-authored the book "Act Right" with Mara Purl, offering advice for aspiring television and film actors. She has led workshops and seminars on tai chi and Taoism, focusing on stress reduction and mindfulness, and holds certification as a tai chi master.

Gray has served as a spokesperson for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and as a board member for Haven House, the oldest battered women's shelter in the United States. Gray is the recipient of eleven community service awards, including the Leadership Award by the County of Los Angeles, the Woman of the Year Award presented by the Los Angeles Commission for Women, the Guardian Angel Award from Mothers Against Sexual Abuse, and the YWCA's Women of Achievement Award of Distinction. To support herself between acting roles, Gray began attending comic book conventions, meeting fans, and selling autographs, which led her to found Heroes for Hire, a company that assists actors in booking appearances at comic book and fan conventions worldwide.
