Erik Estrada Biography
Erik Estrada rose to international fame for his six-season run as Officer Frank “Ponch” Poncherello on the hit television series "CHiPs," becoming one of the most recognizable stars of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Estrada’s breakout came when Don Murray cast him opposite Pat Boone in "The Cross and the Switchblade." Determined to succeed, he went on to secure a role in "The New Centurions" alongside George C. Scott, launching a steady career that included films such as "Airport ’75" and "Midway," as well as guest appearances on series like "Hawaii Five-O."
At the height of his "CHiPs" fame, Estrada also starred in and produced the NBC movie "Honey Boy." After the series ended, he returned to his New York roots with an off-Broadway run in "True West" at the Cherry Lane Theatre.
In later years, he expanded his career across television, reality programming, and public service, including appearing in "Armed & Famous," where celebrities trained alongside real police officers—reflecting a long-standing connection to law enforcement and community safety initiatives.
