Empire Of The Sun

Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music act formed by Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore. Steele, previously known as the vocalist and guitarist for The Sleepy Jackson, and Littlemore, recognized for his work as a keyboardist and producer with PNAU, established the project to explore synth-pop songwriting, layered electronic production, and a strong visual identity. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Phoenix and Daft Punk, the duo is known for integrating theatrical costumes and cinematic imagery into their performances, presenting their music as part of a comprehensive audiovisual concept.

The debut album, "Walking On A Dream," described by the musicians as "a spiritual road movie," produced singles including "Walking On A Dream" and "We Are The People." The album achieved triple Platinum certification in Australia and received Platinum and Gold certifications in the United Kingdom and the United States. Empire of the Sun earned multiple ARIA Awards for "Walking On A Dream," including Best Album of the Year. The single "Walking On A Dream" reached No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 after being featured in a Honda Civic campaign and later attained No. 1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart, following the success of "Alive."

The second album, "Ice On The Dune," featured tracks such as "Alive" and "DNA" and supported a global tour. The album "Two Vines" explored themes of nature and humanity's relationship with technology. These releases led to performances at major music festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits. The duo also contributed original songs, "Tonight" and "Wandering Star," to the Farrelly brothers film "Dumb and Dumber To."

"Ask That God" marked a new chapter for Empire of the Sun, featuring singles such as "Changes," "Music on the Radio," and "Cherry Blossom." The album debuted at No. 4 on Billboard's Top Dance Albums chart, continuing the group's presence in the electronic music industry. The accompanying world tour included performances in more than 22 countries and appearances at several international festivals. The "Ask That God Tour: Afterlife" expanded on the themes introduced in the album, further developing the group's signature blend of imagination, transformation, and connection.

Empire of the Sun has sold more than five million albums, accumulated six billion streams, and received eight ARIA Awards and two APRA Awards.
