Emma Young

Emma Young is a science and medical journalist and author specializing in psychology, human biology, and popular science. Young holds a degree in psychology and has more than 25 years of experience contributing to publications including Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald, and New Scientist, where she served as a senior online reporter in London and Australasian editor in Sydney. She works as a staff writer for the British Psychological Society and also freelances articles and writes books.

Young is known for the popular science book "Super Senses," published by John Murray and translated into several languages. In "Super Senses," Young explores the science of human perception, examining topics such as how people taste without using their tongues, the effects of swearing, and the roles of chocolate and rollercoasters in attraction. The book features insights from blind ballerinas, voodoo priests, and a nurse who can detect Parkinson's disease by smell, highlighting the scientific basis of human abilities.

Young has authored more than a dozen books, including adaptations of Bill Bryson's titles for children—"A Really Short Journey Through the Body" and "A Really Short History of Words."
