Ella Al-Shamahi Biography
Ella Al-Shamahi is a National Geographic Explorer, paleoanthropologist, evolutionary biologist, stand-up and TV host. Her latest TV show was the highly celebrated BBC/PBS series "HUMAN," our unlikely story from one of many human species and the underdog of the group to the most dominant form of life on Earth. She specializes in Neanderthals, caves and expeditions in hostile, disputed and unstable territories including Iraq, Yemen and Somaliland. Al-Shamahi believes it is a tragedy for science and for these regions if they are neglected and argues that they represent the future of exploration. Her TED mainstage talk in 2019 on this topic and her expedition to the island of Socotra, a UNESCO world heritage site, via a cement cargo ship, has been viewed 2.5 million views. She conducts speaking tours in both the U.S. and UK where she blends science, emotion, humor and expedition stories.
