Elizabeth George

Elizabeth George, a prolific and celebrated American author, is most recognized for her mystery novels, particularly the Inspector Lynley series. Her debut novel, "A Great Deliverance," not only launched the series, but also earned her prestigious awards including the 1988 Agatha Award for Best First Novel, the 1989 Anthony Award for Best Debut Novel, and the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière in France. The first 11 books of the series were adapted into the popular BBC television series "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries", and a new series titled "Lynley" began filming in 2024 for BBC One. Beyond the Inspector Lynley series, George has authored four young adult novels in the "Whidbey Island" series, three collections of short stories, and two self-help books for writers.

George's literary contributions extend beyond writing; she is also dedicated to fostering the growth of other writers. In 1997, she established the Elizabeth George Foundation, which provides grants for unpublished and emerging writers. She has also shared her expertise through creative writing seminars in the US, Canada, and the UK. Her commitment to the literary field was recognized when she received an honorary doctorate from Cal State Fullerton. George's understanding of British culture, despite being a Californian, has been acknowledged in interviews by major publications and is evident in her detailed research for her novels.
