Eddie Wu

Eddie Wu, also known as Wu Yongming, is a co-founder of Alibaba Group and serves as its chief executive officer. Wu was among the 19 founders who established Alibaba in Hangzhou, where he acted as the company's first programmer and technology director, developing the foundational code for the e-commerce marketplace. He is a member of the Alibaba Partnership, a group of senior insiders with significant influence over board nominations.

Wu's career at Alibaba has included several key technology leadership roles. He has served as chief technology officer of Alipay, business director and general manager of the monetization platform Alimama, and chief technology officer of Taobao. Wu later led Alibaba Group's search, advertising, and mobile business, and played a central role in the company's transition to mobile commerce with the launch of the Taobao mobile app. He also founded Vision Plus Capital, a venture capital firm investing in advanced technologies, enterprise services, and digital healthcare.

Wu assumed the role of group CEO during a major leadership transition, which included Alibaba's restructuring into multiple business units. He also became CEO of Taobao and Tmall Group and later took direct control of Alibaba Cloud and the core Taobao and Tmall e-commerce businesses, overseeing the company's primary revenue-generating divisions.

Under Wu's leadership, Alibaba has prioritized artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure as central to its business strategy. He established the Alibaba Token Hub Business Group, consolidating teams focused on AI models, platforms, and applications, including Tongyi Laboratory, the Model-as-a-Service business line, the Qwen Business Unit, the Wukong Business Unit, and the AI Innovation Business Unit. Alibaba has committed significant investment in cloud computing and AI infrastructure. The Qwen open model family has achieved widespread adoption, with open downloads surpassing one billion and over 200,000 derivatives.

Wu's strategy has resulted in measurable growth, with Alibaba Group reporting increased cloud revenue and expanded enterprise adoption of AI services. The Cloud Intelligence Group's external revenue has shown substantial gains, and the company's model and application services platform has achieved strong annual recurring revenue. Wu continues to focus on advancing Alibaba's position in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and e-commerce technology.
