Earnest Sweat

Earnest Sweat is a venture capitalist with nearly two decades of experience in public equity, private markets, and entrepreneurship. Sweat earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from Columbia University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. His career began as an equity research analyst at BMO Capital Markets, specializing in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), where he developed expertise in data analysis and investment thesis development. Sweat later joined Prologis as a founding team member of its venture group, marking the company's initial foray into venture capital.

Sweat served as a venture partner at GreatPoint Ventures, focusing on investments in value chain technology—startups that drive efficiency, reduce costs, or enhance the value of digital and physical assets—across real estate, retail, e-commerce, and supply chain sectors. He led investments in companies such as Flexport, Flexe, Bit.io (acquired by Databricks), Lula, and BookOutdoors, contributing to a portfolio with a combined enterprise value exceeding $14 billion. Sweat is a Kauffman Fellow and holds a Center for Research in Technology & Innovation Fellowship from the Kellogg School of Management.

Sweat founded Public School Ventures, a pledge fund supporting Series A and B enterprise companies. The fund brings together a community of more than 750 professionals, including technical operators, go-to-market experts, family offices, and institutional limited partners, to invest in early-stage B2B enterprise startups. His investment philosophy centers on value chain technology, emphasizing the transformative impact of technology in sectors such as real estate, retail, insurance, healthcare, and logistics.

Sweat also established Stresswood, a lead-only Series A venture firm focused on supporting founders scaling high-growth companies. In addition to his investment work, Sweat co-hosts the podcast "Swimming with Allocators," which explores the venture capital landscape from a limited partner perspective and features guests from organizations including NEPC, Ford Foundation, and Sapphire Partners. He regularly shares insights through speaking engagements and publications, addressing topics such as innovation in legacy industries, scaling startups in capital-intensive sectors, and the evolving role of SaaS venture capitalists. Sweat's involvement with the venture community, including roles with BLCK VC and as a Kauffman Fellow, reflects his commitment to growth and diversity in the industry.
