Dystany Spurlock

Dystany Spurlock is a professional motorsports racer whose career has expanded opportunities for women and Black women in competitive racing. Spurlock began her career in motorcycle drag racing at age 17 and founded Dystany Spurlock Racing, establishing a foundation for a career marked by record-setting performances. She was the first woman to win the Real Street class in the XDA Motorcycle Drag Racing Series, setting a world record, and holds multiple BMW S1000RR performance records in the United States and internationally. Spurlock also became the first African American woman to win a 4.60 index final in motorcycle drag racing.

Spurlock set track, series, and world records in the Real Street class with a 7.32-second pass at 178 mph, becoming the first woman to win that class. In partnership with Arana Racing, she competed at the American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals, becoming the second Black woman to compete in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class. Spurlock expanded her motorsports career into stock car racing, beginning with late model racing and progressing to the ARCA Menards Series after approval from NASCAR's competition committee.

She became the first Black woman to compete in the ARCA Menards Series East, finishing seventh at Hickory Motor Speedway, and later became the first Black woman to compete in a national ARCA Menards Series event, finishing 10th at Kansas Speedway. Spurlock also became the first Black woman to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. She serves on the Board of Directors of the African American Automotive Association, which advocates for diversity in the automotive industry.

In addition to her racing career, Spurlock is a SAG-AFTRA actress, model, and entrepreneur, recognized for her distinctive fashion, including a signature pink racing suit with a corset. Her docuseries, "Driven by Dystany: The Road to NASCAR," has brought national attention to her story and the broader conversation about representation in motorsports. Through her achievements and advocacy, Spurlock continues to promote diversity and inclusion within the racing industry.
