Dr. Rowland Illing

Dr Rowland Illing is the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Healthcare and Life Sciences for Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this role, he oversees strategy and engagement for healthcare and life science customers worldwide, including providers, payors, medical device, biopharmaceutical companies and technology partners. His work centers on enabling customers to leverage core cloud technology and innovation, such as generative artificial intelligence, to drive better data utilization for improved efficiency, research and patient outcomes. Also, to work with teams internal to AWS on which technologies can be built and scaled most effectively.

Rowland is an Academic Interventional Radiologist, trained at University College Hospitals London, where he was subsequently Director of the Interventional Oncology Service. He remains Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, in the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science. He is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and Senior Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management in the UK. He continues to present and publish in the academic literature, is a member of the Digital Health Roster of Experts for the WHO and member of the European AI Alliance for the European Commission.
