Dr. Connie Mariano

Dr. Connie Mariano is a physician, retired U.S. Navy rear admiral, and public speaker known for a series of historic firsts in military and presidential medicine. Mariano was the first military woman to serve as White House physician to the president, the first woman director of the White House Medical Unit, and the first Filipino American in U.S. history to achieve the rank of Navy rear admiral. She graduated as high school valedictorian, earned honors from University of California at San Diego, and received her medical degree from Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Upon graduation, she was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Navy and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Naval Hospital San Diego.

Mariano was appointed White House physician after nomination by the Navy and selection by the White House. She later became director of the White House Medical Unit and served as personal physician to President Bill Clinton, providing care to three sitting American presidents during her nine-year tenure. Her service included the final year of George H.W. Bush's presidency, the entirety of Clinton's administration, and the first year of George W. Bush's first term. Throughout her time at the White House, Mariano provided executive health care under high-pressure circumstances, navigating the challenges of being a woman and a minority in a role historically held by white male military officers.

After 24 years of active duty, Mariano retired from the Navy at the rank of rear admiral. She then served as a consultant in the Executive Health Program at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, and later founded the Center for Executive Medicine, a concierge medical practice delivering executive health care to CEOs and their families.

Mariano is the author of the memoir "The White House Doctor: My Patients Were Presidents," which details her experiences in presidential medicine and executive health. She is recognized as an expert in presidential health care, the 25th Amendment, VIP medical care, travel medicine, and quality of care. Mariano has served as an external advisory board member to the committee advising the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on VA system reform.

She hosts two monthly podcasts, "Dr. Connie's House Calls" and "The Widow's Walk," on the Empowerment Channel of VoiceAmerica Network. After the loss of her husband John, Mariano has spoken openly about grief and resilience, sharing her experiences to support others facing personal loss. Her public speaking covers topics such as leadership, medicine, resilience, and the American Dream, drawing on her background in executive medicine, military service, and presidential health care.
