Don Omar

Don Omar, born William Omar Landrón Rivera in Puerto Rico, is a rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor known for his influence in the Latin music industry and the reggaeton genre. Recognized by Billboard and Rolling Stone for his contributions to reggaeton, Omar is credited with bringing the genre to international audiences and helping to establish it as a global phenomenon. Before achieving widespread recognition, Omar performed in local clubs and collaborated with DJs and producers, eventually gaining attention through his work with Héctor el Bambino of the duo Héctor & Tito, for whom he initially produced and wrote songs before collaborating as a vocalist.

Omar rose to prominence with his debut studio album, "The Last Don," which sold more than 400,000 units in the United States and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. He received awards for Latin Pop Album of the Year, New Artist, and Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. His second album, "King of Kings," became the highest-charting reggaeton album in the top 10 U.S. charts, debuting at number one on the Latin sales charts and topping the Billboard Latin Rhythm Radio Chart. It reached number eight on the Billboard 200, marking the first time a reggaeton album broke into the Top Ten. Billboard recognized "King of Kings" as one of the most successful albums in Latin America and in the history of reggaeton, with sales estimated in the millions.

Omar continued to diversify his sound with his third studio album, "iDon," which featured "Virtual Diva," a song that became highly requested on Latin radio. He achieved further international success with "Danza Kuduro," featuring Lucenzo, which appeared on the "Fast Five" soundtrack and is featured at the conclusion of the film. In addition to his music career, Omar has portrayed Rico Santos in four films in the Fast & Furious franchise, beginning with Fast & Furious and returning for Fast Five, The Fate of the Furious, and F9. Throughout his career, Omar has received multiple honors, including three Latin Grammy Awards, one Billboard Music Award, 17 Billboard Latin Music Awards, three Lo Nuestro Awards, and eight Viña del Mar International Song Festival Awards.

Omar has demonstrated resilience in both his personal and professional life. He received the Global Icon award from Premio Lo Nuestro, underscoring his ongoing impact in reggaeton. After publicly sharing his diagnosis and recovery from kidney cancer, Omar has used his experience to inspire others. He launched the Back to Reggaeton tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his career, which ranked among Billboard's Top 10 Latin Tours, selling hundreds of thousands of tickets and grossing tens of millions of dollars. Contemporary Latin urban artists, including Ozuna, Bad Bunny, and Farruko, continue to acknowledge Omar's influence and incorporate elements of his style into their music, reflecting his lasting legacy in the reggaeton and Latin music industries.
