Don Mattingly

Don Mattingly, a former professional baseball first baseman, manager, and coach, has had an extensive career in the sport. His playing career with the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1995 was marked by numerous achievements, including winning the AL MVP award in 1985, being a six-time All-Star from 1984 to 1989, and winning nine Gold Glove Awards and three Silver Slugger Awards. He also led the league in hits and doubles in 1986, setting single-season franchise records. Mattingly's uniform number (23) was retired by the New York Yankees, a testament to his impact on the team.

Transitioning from playing to coaching, Mattingly served as the hitting coach for the New York Yankees from 2004 to 2006, helping the team set a franchise record for home runs in 2004. He then joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a hitting coach in 2008, before becoming their manager from 2011 to 2015. His management tenure was marked by multiple NL West wins and several postseason appearances. He subsequently managed the Miami Marlins from 2016 to 2022, securing the NL Manager of the Year award in 2020. Mattingly later served as a bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2023 to 2025, contributing to their 2025 World Series run.

Outside of his professional roles, Mattingly has been recognized by various baseball halls of fame. He was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame in 1994, and the New York–Penn League Hall of Fame in 2015. Additionally, he has appeared in public-service announcements for the "True Dads" campaign on Spike TV and guest appeared on Christian recording artist Matt Felts' album, demonstrating his influence beyond the baseball field.
