Don Cherry

Don Cherry is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and commentator, recognized in the sporting world for his multifaceted career. His tenure as head coach of the Boston Bruins was marked by significant achievements, including four division titles and two Stanley Cup Finals appearances. Additionally, he coached the Colorado Rockies, further broadening his coaching experience. Cherry's life transitioned to the broadcasting sector, where he co-hosted "Coach's Corner," a regular segment on CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada," from 1986 to 2019. His influence reached beyond television, hosting "Grapevine," a radio segment, from 1984 to 2019, and starring in the video series "Don Cherry's Rock'em Sock'em Hockey".

Cherry's contributions to hockey and Canadian culture have been recognized and celebrated in various forms. His life and career were dramatized in the CBC films "Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story" and "The Wrath of Grapes: The Don Cherry Story II". In 2004, his influence was acknowledged by the Canadian public when he was voted as the seventh-greatest Canadian in the CBC miniseries "The Greatest Canadian." His professional excellence led to his induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2019. However, his broadcasting career ended unexpectedly when he was dismissed from "Hockey Night in Canada" in 2019 due to controversial comments made on air.

Post-broadcasting, Cherry started a podcast called "Grapevine" in 2019, further cementing his relevance and influence in the industry. Despite retiring from podcasting in 2025, his legacy continues in various forms. He has acted in various TV shows and movies, including "Power Play" and provided his voice in "Zeroman" and Disney's "The Wild". Outside of the entertainment industry, Cherry's influence stretches to the hospitality industry with Don Cherry's Sports Grill, a chain of sports bars and restaurants named after him. His philanthropic endeavors include the Don Cherry Pet Rescue Foundation, and he donates all profits from his Simply Pets snacks line to animal charities.
