Dominic Ashley-Timms

Dominic Ashley-Timms is the founder and CEO of Notion, a global performance improvement consultancy focused on transforming how managers and leaders engage with their teams. A graduate ergonomist with an EMBA from IMD in Lausanne, Ashley-Timms applies a human-centered design approach to learning and behavior change within organizations.

Following a consulting career leading multimillion-dollar change programs and training leaders in 37 countries, Ashley-Timms has developed scalable, evidence-based solutions for management performance. Central to his work is the STAR Manager program, which he co-created to help organizations shift away from command-and-control management styles. The program enables managers and leaders to adopt an Operational Coaching style of management, supporting organizational transformation. Ashley-Timms and his team observed that encouraging managers to ask questions, rather than provide immediate solutions, stimulates greater reflection and constructive thinking—an insight that inspired the STAR methodology’s enquiry-led approach. The globally certified STAR Manager program is adopted in more than 40 countries.

The methodology developed by Ashley-Timms has undergone academic scrutiny. The UK government invited Notion to apply for research funding, awarding support through Innovate UK to conduct an extended trial of the STAR Manager program across 62 organizations from 14 sectors, in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science. Research demonstrated that managers applying the STAR model increased the time spent coaching team members by 70 percent while reclaiming 20 percent of their time. An academic paper published by LSE ranked in the top 5 percent of all academic papers published. Notion has also been recognized as L&D Supplier of the Year at the Personnel Today Awards, highlighting innovation and value in learning and development programs.

Ashley-Timms is a bestselling author and public speaker. He co-authored "The Answer Is A Question: The Missing Superpower that Changes Everything and Will Transform Your Impact as a Manager and Leader." He has appeared live on BBC News to discuss the evidence-based approach to management known as Operational Coaching. The book received an award at the New York Big Book Awards. Notion’s client roster includes organizations such as Warwick University, Sainsbury’s, Virgin Atlantic, and NBC Universal in America.
