Deebo Samuel

Deebo Samuel Sr. is a wide receiver recognized for his versatility and impact in professional football. Samuel played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks before being selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the NFL Draft. During his college career, he overcame a broken leg that ended his junior season early, returning to record 62 receptions for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He earned First-Team All-America and First-Team All-SEC honors as an all-purpose player.

Upon joining the 49ers, Samuel became a key component of the team's offense, contributing both as a wide receiver and as a running back—a hybrid role he referred to as "wide back." His skill set allowed head coach Kyle Shanahan to utilize him in multiple positions, expanding the offensive playbook. Samuel achieved a combined 1,770 rushing and receiving yards with 12 touchdowns from scrimmage in a standout season, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors and helping lead the 49ers to an NFC Championship Game appearance. He became the first 49ers receiver since Terrell Owens to be named to the Associated Press All-Pro list.

Samuel is the only wide receiver in NFL history to record at least 20 receiving and 20 rushing touchdowns. He also demonstrated his versatility by throwing a touchdown pass in a critical late-season game. His career statistics include 406 receptions for 5,519 yards and 27 receiving touchdowns, along with 1,218 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.

After being traded, Samuel played a season with the Washington Commanders, appearing in 16 games and recording 72 catches for 727 yards and five touchdowns. He later returned to the 49ers on a one-year contract. Samuel's career is marked by his adaptability, resilience, and contributions to both the passing and rushing games, making him a prominent figure in the NFL.
