Daymé Arocena

Daymé Arocena is an Afro-Cuban jazz singer, composer, and bandleader recognized as one of Cuba’s dynamic contemporary musical voices. Arocena began performing semi-professionally at age 8 and became the lead singer of Los Primos at 14, later studying at Havana’s Amadeo Roldán conservatory. Her early career included international recognition as a member of Jane Bunnett’s all-female jazz ensemble Maqueque, with whom she won a Juno Award for Best Jazz Album. Arocena established herself as a solo artist with a blend of Afro-Cuban roots, jazz, soul, and classical influences.
