
David Strom is a recognized authority on network and Internet technologies, with a career spanning more than three decades in technology journalism, editorial leadership, and public speaking. Strom has written and spoken extensively on IT security, VoIP, convergence, email, cloud computing, network management, Internet applications, wireless, and web services. His work includes the creation of numerous print and web publications, the development of hands-on IT test labs simulating enterprise environments, the curation of email newsletters, and extensive blogging on IT business topics. He has presented at IT business conferences and authored thousands of magazine articles.
As the founding editor-in-chief of Network Computing magazine, Strom hired a staff of 20, established six networked laboratories, designed a network-based publishing and production system, and contributed numerous articles on networking. His editorial management experience includes leading publications such as Tom's Hardware, PC Week, ReadWrite, and Inside Security. Before launching Network Computing, Strom helped introduce PC Week's first regularly scheduled networking supplement, Connectivity, and contributed over 300 stories, including the weekly column The Practical Networker.
Strom is the author of two books: "Internet Messaging," co-authored with Marshall T. Rose, and "Home Networking Survival Guide." He also created a series of video screencast product reviews of enterprise IT products syndicated to various websites. Since the mid-1990s, Strom has self-published a weekly series of essays called "Web Informant," distributed via email to thousands of subscribers, covering topics such as eCommerce, website usability, and web product marketing.
Strom writes and speaks about security, networking, and communications for CSO Online, Network World, Computerworld, and other publications. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, both virtually and in person, and has presented in more than two dozen countries. Strom has appeared on Fox TV News Network, NPR's "Science Friday," ABC-TV's "World News Tonight," and CBS-TV's "Up to the Minute."
In addition to his journalism and editorial work, Strom has taught computer networking at the high school level and a graduate business class in management information systems theory. He holds a Master of Science in operations research from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science from Union College. With decades of hands-on experience and a substantial body of published work, Strom is regarded as a trusted voice in technology journalism, network security, and IT communications.
